On the reverse, the outer ring reads ‘CITTA’ DEL VATICANO’ at the top, while at the bottom there is the R sign of the Rome mint between two ears of corn. The inner circle depicts an elderly friar explaining and teaching something to two young men, one standing and one seated. On the right hand side there is the value L.500.

The author of both sides of the coin is Enrico Manfrini.

The reverse of this 1983 coin depicts, in the centre, the hand of God touching a sphere formed by lines, thus representing the act of creation of the Universe. To the lower right is the signature of the author Nicola Morelli, to the left the mint mark.
