For this historical figure we have to take an even bigger step backwards. In fact, we are talking about the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2016 coin commemorating the 2200th anniversary of the death of Titus Maccius Plautus, a playwright from Roman times.

The coin’s obverse depicts a representation of two theatrical masks from the Commedia Nuova, a source of inspiration for Plautus. These are taken from a mosaic dating from the first century B.C. in the Capitoline Museums in Rome.

In the top centre is the monogram of the Italian Republic, to the right the author’s initials ‘LDS’ and to the left the mint mark. At the bottom there is the inscription “PLAUTO” followed by the dates “184 BC” and “2016”. Another coin in honour of a historical figure who lived in Roman times. In particular, this coin was minted in honour of the 2000th anniversary of the death of the Roman historian Titus Livius. We are talking about the 2 Euro Commemorative Coin Italy 2017.

The obverse depicts a bust of Titus Livius taken from the work of the artist Lorenzo Larese Moretti. To the left of the design is the monogram of the Italian Republic while immediately below are the initials of the author.

This coin, the 2 Euro Commemorative Italy 2018, was minted in honour of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Italian Constitution on 27 December 1947.

The obverse of the 2 euro Italy 2018 depicts the act of signing with Enrico De Nicola (Provisional Head of State) seated in the centre, Alcide De Gasperi (Prime Minister) on the right and Umberto Terracini (President of the Constituent Assembly) on the left.

At the top is the arched inscription ‘COSTITUZIONE’ followed immediately below by the monogram of the Italian Republic.

To the left are the author’s initials ‘UP’ and at the bottom the inscription ‘CON SICURA COSCIENZA’ followed by the mintmark and the years ‘1948 – 2018’.

The outside of the 2 euro Italy 2018 features the 12 five-pointed stars representing the European states, while the reverse side of the coin shows the same face as all the other coins.

The obverse depicts the portrait of Maria Montessori, an Italian educator, neuropsychiatrist, physician, philosopher and pedagogue. She invented the Montessori Method of the same name, which is known and used throughout the world. The portrait is set in a geometric representation composed of didactic elements of her educational method, such as the cube of a thousand. Her name MARIA MONTESSORI is engraved below and to the side.

In the top centre is the date of its birth, 1870, and below it the year of issue, 2020. To the right is the monogram of the Italian Republic, RI, and below the cube of a thousand is the signature of the author Luciana de Simoni. Around the central part of the coin, on the nickel outer ring, are the twelve stars of the European Union in a circle.
