The Obverse depicts, in a very characteristic manner, the seaplane piloted by Captain Kilmer which, on 13 February 1915, took off from Valletta’s Grand Harbour and landed in the harbour waters after a 55-minute flight. At the bottom you can also see the Senglea Point, one of the most characteristic features of the Grand Harbour.

At the top is the circular inscription “FIRST FLIGHT FROM MALTA” followed immediately on the right by the arched dates “1915 – 2015”. Inside the design, just below the seaplane, is the inscription “100th anniversary” while further below are the author’s initials NGB (Noel Galea Bason).

  • The coincard with the mint and director’s symbols on either side of the vintage: cornucopia and pentagon. But without the F in the star.
